I Need A Cake!

I had a mid-morning craving for a cake. *Who doesn't?*

The last cake I'd bake was before Eid. So I think this will justified my craving. I've had several options of course. This time, I'm going to try something new. Not that what I already have in my repertoire couldn't do their job. This is more like a-newbie-in-baking thing. We've got to try something new so we can develop it to our taste.

Thus, my heart was pulled into several directions. One, a very beautiful looking Black Forest Cake. As I read through the instructions, I was a bit disheartened. Too many step to follow. Urgh! So I save it for another time when I'm not so much in a hurry. Now moving on to a second choice. Strawberry Shortcake Cake. Looks easy enough to do. But...there's no strawberry laying around in my house! Not even strawberry jam. Which drag me towards a very plain looking cake. I mean it. Seriously the most plain-looking cake ever.

Which I'm in doubt either to try it or not. But looking at the ingredients plus it's very simple steps, I thought: Okay, just give it a go. I'm sooo in NEED of a CAKE right now!

After all the jumble trouble and everything. It's done. And...

It was so darn good!

I've just reduced the sugar a bit. And follow anything else in the ingredients. It's perfect for snacking. Was not too sweet. The apples give it a slight tartness. The crumbs are tender without being too moist. Overall, I'm satisfied. I think it is best to let it cool a few hours to let the flavors mingle a bit before serving. But I don't think you can manage to do that. Me included!

Here's the recipe. Dig in! ;)

German Apple Cake
Adapted from Food.com

2 eggs
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1 1/3 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
5 green apples, chopped
  1. Beat both eggs and oil till smooth
  2. Add in the next 6 ingredients; mix well
  3. Fold in chopped apples
  4. Pour in a greased 7x11 (inches) baking dish
  5. Baked in preheated oven 350 F / 176 C for 35-40 minutes *I check-up on mine at 35 minutes, and perfect*
  6. Let cool in baking dish before cut into squares. Serve as snack after breakfast or during tea time... ^_^
