Kitchen Invaders 5: Steam It

I begged my sister to make the cake. Really. It was so good by itself alone! Soft and moist, it tasted so much better the next day. I totally recommend it to chocolate lovers. The first time it was made, I haven't managed to get a decent picture. This time around, I forgot to photograph the whole cake! Guess you'll have to contain with the last slice... ^_^

Steamed Chocolate Cake
Adapted from JintanManis

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup cocoa powder

3 eggs, room temperature
1 cup sugar
1 cup warm water

Few drops of vanilla extract
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
3/4 cup cooking oil, I used corn oil

Chocolate Topping:
1/2 bar of dark cooking chocolate, about 100 g/ 3.5 oz
2 Tbsp butter
1/2 Tbsp confectioners sugar
Few drops of vanilla

  1. Sift together flour + baking powder + baking soda + cocoa into a medium bowl. Set aside, prepare the steamer. Grease and line a 20 cm round baking pan with parchment paper
  2. Whisk all the eggs using a mixer until frothy then add in the sugar. Beat again until the sugar dissolve and increased in volume
  3. Add in the flour mixture a little at a time alternately with the warm water. Afterwards, add in the vanilla + condensed milk + oil. Mix until just incorporated. Careful not to over mix
  4. Pour the cake batter into the prepare pan, covering it with a piece of aluminum foil (to prevent evaporated steam drop into the cake batter)
  5. Steam for about 1 hour - 1 1/2 hour until cake tester inserted in comes out clean. Remove from steamer and cool in pan set on a cooling rack
  6. Making the topping: Combine all the ingredients, cook over a double boiler until the the chocolate glaze is smooth and shiny. Pour over cooled cake then top with chocolate rice/jimmies

The last slice! Oh my, I wish we still had some left...

P/s:  My sister skipped the topping, and it was still damn delicious! I bet with the topping you'll be blown away... =P
