Simple Feast

Salam 'Aidil Adha to all Muslims!

It feels so good to be back. ^_^ Seems like ages ago since the last post!

So, how do we spent the day off?!

Let see...

We had Mee Jawa (Javanese Noodle) for breakfast and lunch:

Acik tried to concentrate on doing her Math assignment between Facebooking, chatting and Googling:

Shin-kun having a personal time sun bathing on the balcony:

And my dad was totally fixed on telemovie Qurban Tak Jadi:

Having said that, the fever was taking turn on everybody in the house and lucky for me I'm all better. Alhamdulillah... ^_^  Does the Mee Jawa above made you salivate? If so, lets get to the recipe!

Mak Teh's Mee Jawa
A recipe from an auntie of mine
Serves 8-10

  • 1 kg fresh yellow noodle (blanched)
  • 8 hard-boiled eggs (skinned and halved)
  • 4 pieces of tofu (not the soft, egg tofu kind). Cut each tofu into 12 small slices. Deep fried in hot oil until crispy
  • A bunch each of scallion and parsley (chopped up)
  • 2 red chilies (thinly sliced)
  • 2 limes (sliced)
  • Fried shallot (Store bought)

Soup :

  • 500 g sweet potato (boiled and mashed)
  • 15 dried chilies (soaked in hot water)
  • 500g meat, sliced (chicken / beef)
  • 200 g prawn (cleaned and deveined)
  • 3 Tbsp dried shrimp*
  • 1 big onion*
  • 3 cloves garlic*
  • 1 inch ginger*
  • 1 inch galangal (lengkuas)*
  • 1 stalk lemon grass*
  • 3 Tbsp beef curry powder
  • Salt & sugar to taste
  • Water

  1. In a food processor, process all (*) ingredients. Set aside. Process the soaked dried chilies into a paste
  2. Heat enough oil in a heavy-bottom pot to stir-fry the chili paste. Then add in the processed mixture and cook until fragrant
  3. Make a paste out of the curry powder by adding some water. Add into the pot and cooked until  the oil comes out
  4. Add meat into it. Stir- fry just until the meat half cooked. Then add in mashed sweet potato. along with a jug of water, about 1.5 Liter into the pot. Add the prawns also. Stir and let it cook until it comes to boil
  5. Season with salt and sugar. I started with 1 Tbsp salt and 1 Tbsp sugar. Taste, add on from that to your liking. The soup should taste sweet and spicy
  6. Serves by placing noodle first in a bowl. Topped with crispy tofu, half hard-boiled egg. Cover with sauce. Sprinkle fried shallot, and chopped scallion+parsley. Squeeze a slice of lime ove it. Done! ^_^

Bon Appétit!
